Do you know about fibers and their types? If “No,” you can count upon this article. This article will acknowledge our knowledgeable audience about Synthetic fibers and natural fibers and their types. So stay tuned with us and fill your cup of knowledge with the below details.

So we start our article with:

What is fiber?

Fibers are known as a fine filament, which is crafted naturally or can be synthesized. And, there are two types of Fiber: Synthetic Fibers and Natural Fibers.

So let’s study both the types in detail. We will be going to start with Synthetic fibers and their types:

Synthetic Fibers

They are known as human-made fibers, and it is produced via chemical substances and via the process of polymerization. These fibers are used in mass production of clothing, household materials, children’s toys and etc.

Let's see what types of Synthetic Fibers are out there:

It is a general term used for any textile or fabric, which is generated from fibers or polyester yarns. Polyester is a name for man-made polymer or a synthetic. It is created by blending three acids that are – ethylene, glycol, and terephthalate

The presentable fabric was invented by popular British Chemists James Tennant Dickson and John Rex Whinfield in 1941.

It is a polymer, a plastic, which is made up of heavy molecules, short and endlessly atoms. It is not one polymer, it is a family of Polyimides. It is made from chemicals that are found in materials like petroleum and coal.

It was invented in the 1930s by Wallace H. Carothers, the American Chemist and the head of the research team. He worked at E. I Du Pont de Nemours and Company, where he invented the Nylon.

Faux Fur

It is a synthetic fabric produced from a combination of polyester fibers and acrylic fibers. It is available in varied patterns and colors.

It was introduced in 1929, and in 1940 it raised again with advancement and improvement in its quality.

It is a synthetic fabric that is developed with the help of Plastic threads. It is created with the chemical process of Fossil fuels. In 1941, DuPont invented the first acrylic Fibers.

These types of Fibers are known as the primary type of Synthetic fibers. It is created by treating cellulose, wood pulp, or cotton liners with a combination of acetic acid. British Celanese Limited invented acetate fiber in 1924.

It is a Synthetic Fiber known for its extraordinary elasticity. It was invented by the American chemist Joseph Shivers at DuPont’s Laboratory.

What is Natural Fiber?

The fibers produced by animals, plants, and geological processes are known as Natural Fiber.

So let's discuss types of Natural Fiber: These are as follows:

Fur fabric is mostly knitted, woven from other fabric like wool, rayon, or cotton, and it is made with the pile, with which it resembles an animal's fur, and then it is finished and dyed.

Wool fabric is obtained from various animals it is known as a natural textile fiber developed from sheep and brought from other animals like mohair from goats and angora from rabbits.

It is known for being a lightweight and robust fabric. It is made from the extractions of the flax plant and some portion of the genus Linum.

Silk is a natural fiber obtained via a process of sericulture from the cocoons of the mulberry silkworm. This is a Shimmering fabric, and it is well-known for its appearance. Its very luxurious and first and foremost is natural.

It is almost pure cellulose. The Cotton fiber is a fluffy staple, soft yarn produced in a boll, like a seed in the cotton plant. Under natural conditions, the sources are converted into the cotton fiber.

It is wool, but it is known as Cashmere wool. It is originated from pashmina and cashmere goats. This fiber is used in the making of textiles, yarns, and clothing.

It is a natural fiber produced via an alpaca, also known as alpaca fleece, and looks the same as wool.

A fabric made from animal skins or hides is known as Leather fabric. It is known for its wrinkle resistance and durability.

Why are Natural Fibers winning?

If we talk about the race between Synthetic Fibers and Natural Fibers, then Natural Fibers is the clear-cut winner. Let’s know from the below points why Natural Fibers have left Synthetic fibers behind in the race.

Natural fibers are breathable in comparison with Synthetic fibers

They are harmless to the skin

Natural Fibers are good for our environment and do not degrade our environment

The voice for natural fiber is getting louder at present

It is a boon, and we should encourage the power of Natural Fibers.

We can say that Indeed Synthetic fabric is ruling the roost but, with so many benefits, Natural Fibers have emerged as the winner and its root will save our environment from degradation. So, yes, Natural fibers are best to use.
